The River

Post by Jim_Alaska » Fri Aug 31, 2018 12:55 am

The Klamath has been very low this summer, right up until two days ago when they released water from the dams.
With the release we got higher than normal water flow and depth and lots of green algae.

But they stopped releasing water and today the river is back to the low flow we had before the release. This would be a perfect time for folks to do some sniping or working with a shovel in places that are usually under water.

Long weekend coming up, so the timing is perfect.

So get out there, do some mining and come back and tell us how you did. Don't forget to take pictures.

Thanks Jim,
That's great news. It looks like the fire crews are mopping up the fires, has the smoke subsided? We will be in the area mid-month.

As to the smoke, it's hard to say how long this smoke free condition will last. It has cleared up before only to come back strong again. Right now it has been clear of smoke for three days.

I talked to a man in Yreka the other day that said he was coming back from back east and was in smoke all the way from Mt. Rushmore.

I'll just bring some particle masks with me.

And today the smoke was very light. Even in heavy smoke days it seems to be less smoky the further upriver you get from Happy Camp.
I guess you will just to take your chances and bring your particle masks.

I agree with the air being better the further upriver Jim. I was archery hunting for deer last week and the smoke was very lite in the Seiad area. There's some nice bucks and bears around there.
