There is no news yet, the minute we know anything it will be posted here.

The following information is posted on Water Boards website, regarding permits for suction dredging
________________________________________________

Hot News! - NPDES Permit Development

The State Water Board staff is developing a Statewide General National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit to regulate discharges associated with suction dredge mining activities discharging to a water of the United States pursuant to its authority to implement the federal Clean Water Act and the state Porter Cologne Water Quality Control Act. The State Water Board staff anticipates releasing a draft permit for public comment by February 2019. The Board staff will consider all public comments that it receives on the draft permit and will make any necessary revisions in response to the public comment. After staff makes any necessary changes in response to public comment, the Board will consider adoption of a revised, draft permit at a public meeting. Interested parties will have the opportunity to directly testify before the Board regarding the draft permit. The State Water Board anticipates that the public meeting to consider adoption of the draft permit will take place in the Spring of 2019. Staff will notify all the interested parties that have registered under the Email subscription for Suction Dredge Mining when the draft NPDES Permit will be posted for review and comment.

I found this on a FB group gold mining page. These guys are all set up for highbanking. They said in the group that they are waiting for their permit before they start and the cops told them it was okay because it's not a dredge.

Will we need permits if we're allowed to highbank again?

I'd love it if we could use our highbankers again, but there hasn't been any announcements yet. You can bet the farm the club will send word to everyone as soon as news arrives. I am preparing my dredge, my highbanker, and a floating sluice with the hope that I'll be able to use SOMETHING besides a pan.

Brett,

The Water Board was considering developing a General NPDES Permit for suction dredge mining. However, this effort has been put on hold while we develop a map that identifies the waterbodies/watersheds where suction dredge mining would be prohibited due to these waterbodies/watersheds being listed as impaired due to mercury, trace metals and turbidity as well as due to the Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations prohibiting suction dredge mining at any time. So you may also want to check the links below and see how your claim may be affected or not. Those waterbodies categorized by DFW regulations as Class A are prohibited from suction dredge mining all year round. So if we develop an NPDES Permit, it would be for waterbodies that are not prohibited due to Water Boards water quality based impairments of mercury, metals, and turbidity or per DFW’s regulations classified as class A waterbodies.

The Water Board listed waterbodies, are listed because based on sampled data, they do not meet standards for metal toxicity criteria, turbidity criteria, and mercury bio-accumulative criteria. These waterbodies that are listed would be prohibited from allowing suction dredge mining activities. We are compiling all the prohibited waterbodies and the permit would then apply only to those not impaired or prohibited by DFW regulations.

Thank you for posting that!

I wonder if anyone has information pertaining to the testing that has been performed on the Klamath River where the club's claims are. There must be studies of turbidity, mercury, and other things that go back for decades.

Where the New 49er's claims are located ..... I think ...is in an "A" area designation unfortunately ! I hope someone can prove me wrong ! Please....... prove me wrong ! I mean that .

Look at this list (in the link below) ..... go to the proper county.... then look up the proper body of water that you want to see..... ..... dredging might become legal at some point BUT ..... they exclude most good , accessible gold producing water ways . I HATE to be the bearer of bad news guys .....but ....

We need to separate from California !!! Look up "NewCalifornia.com" on the internet . I LOVE the concept of the state of Jefferson but.... they are not going about it in a Constitutional way . The "New California" is doing It in a way that is Constitutional ! Please look it up and become involved.

OK , done with that rant ..... now look at this following link to see if YOUR body of water will be legal to dredge IF dredging becomes legal in California again.

Keep up the fight ....... not just the "fight".... but ....... the RIGHT to mine ..... It is our right and our heritage.

If I am over stepping the bounds.... just let me know . I just want to learn to be a better gold prospector. I love prospecting . I do not want to over step my bounds ..... especially in this forum where I am a total newbie . I just love liberty and freedom for all people . I'm just trying to tread lightly .... especially because I am a newbie . I have been trying hard to get the most up to date info that I can and pass it along to like minded people.
