I figured out how to share a few pictures, so here is a few of the animals I have seen at Happy Camp. I deeply regret that I wasn't able to photograph the wolverine I saw. It was magnificent! I also missed getting elk pictures. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JkZdwo ... sp=sharing

I have seen several BIG bears there, and I do mean HUGE! I also saw a cub run across the road one day that could not have been much bigger than a bowling ball. It was as cute as a kitten!

It was really exciting to me even though the sighting was brief. I watched it come down a hill and cross the road as it moved towards the river. It was an adult with a beautiful coat and magnificent tail. It is hard to believe such a pretty animal can have such a reputation as they do. When you see how pretty they are you just want one to be your pet... cute and cuddly, kind of like grizzly bears.

Jim, are you sure you saw a Wolverine? They seem to be very rare to non-existent here in California. Here's a link to an article about it.

There is no doubt Jim. I had time to observe it for close to a minute from less than fifty yards and it was in no hurry. From snout to tail it was surely four feet or better, though it wasn't at all tall like a dog or any other critter. The thing that stands out most in my memory was its huge fluffy fox-like tail. Magnificent indeed! I saw it not far downstream from where everyone parked their RV's at Savage Rapids.

Jim, I did not know they were that rare, so I didn't report it to anyone at the time, though I did speak of it at the office to Montine when I was there. After reading the article you posted I sent a note to the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife to tell them about it. Perhaps someone will be interested. I was sure happy to see it!

Thanks Jim, sounds like you did see one. I found some Wolverine tracks a few years ago, on a high ridge, near the Oregon border. I know it was Wolverine because I used to trap them in Alaska and am familiar with their tracks.

To the northwest of the K-15 camping area, there was a burned area on the south side of Tim's Peak. It was coming down off that hillside. I hope it is an indication of a population of them.
