Have any of you tested any of the Gold Hog mats in your sluices or dredges? They appear to be good, but I haven't had a chance to give them a good test yet. Any opinions out there? https://drive.google.com/file/d/18X_h-T ... sp=sharing

I have used both the "fast" water and "slow" water mats in their sluice box. I believe they work as advertised. They are pricey but well made. I did not find any noticeable gold loss from sampling the tailings. Pretty darn good at catching the micro gold.

I hope they will work well in my sluice. I'll be testing the UR and Scrubber mats and hope they will perform well for me.

Jim and Furious,

I've tried most of those Gold Hog mats and I also own some of their equipment as well. I can say that in over 50 years of (not continuous) mining all over North America I haven't found any better mats or equipment. Now there are some products that come close - but none better.

Of course, everyone thinks that THEIR gold and THEIR mining ground is very different than anywhere else. Those same folks have many years of "SUCCESSFUL MINING" (in their own self evaluation) where they get each and every spec of Gold each and every day.

For myself, in my own self evaluation, I believe that I do, sadly, loose Gold - each and every day that I shovel. I'm not 100% perfect in all recovery - but I'm pretty good.

So, taking personalities like the "I'll Never Change" and folks just starting out from the equation I'd have to say that Gold Hog mats, and their equipment, is the most transparently evaluated equipment in the mix. Their videos are completely fair and fact driven and their products just do what they say and show in their videos.

I've converted my equipment over to the Gold Hog mats and I do own some of their equipment and from all that I will say that their products work exactly as they say. Their presentations are meticulously done and after all the time I've spent using their products, after all the time I've spent watching seemingly endless videos and after conferring with others who use their 'stuff' I would say that they are 100% on the mark in everything they do and make. Others might be the same way --- but we're not putting "Others" under the spotlight here, are we?

Will Gold Hog never make a mistake? No. Will I worry about it? No. Will every miner choose to use them? No (because --- "... THEIR gold and THEIR mining ground is very different than anywhere else."

The most amazing thing I have seen in mining so far is the ability of that fine v-matting they put at the top of almost all small sluice boxes. I have seen little four-inch long strips of that mat material hang onto small pieces of gold like magic as bucket after bucket of material crossed the mats. I am almost convinced you could have a good sluice with that alone.

My sluice is ten inches wide and sixty-five inches long, plus it has an additional fifteen inch flare to bring in more water. I used fifteen inches of that fine v-mat at the top of the sluice. If there is gold, it should be easy to see on that mat as I am running material. The remainder of the sluice will have Gold hog UR mats and Gold Hog Scrubber mats. I have chosen those because I think they will be well-suited for the flow of water and the pre-classified material I expect to run. I am not depending upon lots of riffles, carpets, or expanded metal, but instead I am aiming for a smoother and flatter flow of slurry based upon the volume of water I imagine I'll have to work with. It is easy to have all kinds of imaginations and theories when you are hundreds of miles from the river, which is exactly my position right now. In my mind, my plan is a work of science and brilliance... a farking masterpiece. However, that may be much different when it is in the water. It may just as well turn out to be a piece of crap, but no matter how it turns out it will be fun. If one theory fails you just have to make up a new plan. Failure is only permanent if you let it be.

Truthfully I think I am making something pretty darned cool and I think it will be efficient too. I sure hope so!

I hope this picture appears correctly. This is sort of what I am aiming at, but there will be big changes too. The sluice must be (has been) moved beneath the frame and I have made it so that I can adjust the sluice level in the water. I am in the process of adding legs to stabilize it in the river while the sluice is in operation. Also the mat configuration will not include that green carpet, expanded metal, or extra riffles.
